Money and tips
Will I have any problem exchanging my money or paying in
dollars?
You can buy and sell foreign currency with no problem at the bank
subsidiaries or the money exchange offices in
Acapulco.
The price of the US dollar is free and varies some points from one
day to another. You can exchange euros as well.
It is not recommendable to buy or sell dollars or euros in the black market. Even though the price is better than that of the formal money exchangers, there is the risk of getting counterfeit bills.
Dollars and Euros are accepted in most of the hotels, restaurants
and shopping malls of
Acapulco.
In spite of this fact, always carry some pesos (national currency) in your pocket for small payments.
Will my credit cards be accepted?
Of course, internaStional credit cards are welcomed at
Acapulco's
commercial establishments. Use your credit card with absolute confidence;
however, carrying some cash with you is never excessive.
Is it advisable to carry traveller checks?
Yes, because it is very easy to cash them in at the banks. It is recommendable to have the checks emitted by a well known entity, and preferably for large amounts and in dollars.
How much should I tip?
At the restaurants, if the service is good, it is customary to leave between 15 and 20% of the bill. At the hotels, it is usual to handle a dollar per piece of luggage to the bellboys carrying it, and a dollar to the maid for each night staying at the hotel.
It is not customary to tip the taxi drivers, except when the taxi has been hired for several hours and the driver has performed his job in an efficient manner. You decide the amount.
