Shipwrecks, coral reef formations, submarine mountains and even a submerged Virgin are some of the treasures hidden in the oceanic depths of Acapulco, a fantastic world populated by starfishes and seahorses, endless turtles and even dolphins.

The transparent waters of the Pacific, the rocky sea bottoms and caves in this region of Mexico, are perfect for the practice of scuba diving and snorkelling, with shallow zones great for green divers, and others that can only be investigated by expert explorers.

If you do not know how to dive, you can take a mini course in the schools existing in Acapulco; if you forgot your gear, you may rent one at some rental shop, and if you need a specialised guide, you will also find one. So there is no valid reason for not submerging in the waters of the Pacific.

Below you will find some recommendable places:

• Beach of Icacos: there is a great variety of fishes and corals in its crystalline waters. It is located in the western part of the bay.
  
  
• Roqueta Island: a submarine chapel with a beautiful image of the Virgin of Guadalupe can be appreciated in its shallow waters, besides interesting marine species. It is situated very close to the mainland, before La Caleta and Caletilla Beaches. You do not need much dexterity in order to immerse in here.
  
  
• Puerto Marques: it was a refuge for pirates in ancient times, and currently it is a beautiful and peaceful bastion in Acapulco. It is one of the places of choice for scuba diving and snorkelling devotees due to its clear waters.

Other beaches suitable for diving are La Caleta, Caletilla and Condesa, amongst others.
