To immerse in and scrutinise the submarine depths are activities that can be fully attained in the waters of La Paz. The Sea of Cortes offers a series of places suitable for the practice of these sport activities at this Mexican city.
The following places are recommendable for submersions:
- Espiritu Santo: it is a huge island of 83 square kilometres, and its serene beaches are occasionally visited by numerous seals, whilst seabirds such as seagulls, pelicans, frigates and cormorants nest on its rocky formations and in the cracks of their surfaces.
This beautiful island was discovered by Hernan Cortes in 1535, during one of his many journeys along the California Peninsula. In those times the place was inhabited by the Pericúes, a pre Hispanic people that remained in the zone until the first third of the XVIII century.
