8 out of the 11 whale species existing on the planet can be seen in Mexico, being the zone of Los Cabos one of the best spots to watch these majestic cetaceous.

The grey whale (Eschirchtius robustus), which mates in the clusters of lagoons at Magdalena Bay, can be spotted towards the north, on the Pacific coast. Other species are the humpback, the right and the blue whales, being the latter the largest animal in the world. It can grow up to 30 metres in length, and can weigh up to 120 tons.

It is very common to see one of the smaller species of the whale family in the Sea of Cortes, such as the fin whale, which is considered a Mexican animal worldwide.

Tourist boats riding alongside the whales, literally, weigh anchor at the ports of San Carlos and Adolfo Lopez Mateos.

WHALE WATCHING IN LA PAZ

Numerous specimens of grey whales migrate across thousands of kilometres to arrive in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortes, where they perform their mating rituals or give birth to their whale calves every year.

La Paz is a privileged place for watching these aquatic giants, being the outskirts of Todos Los Santos the best spot to appreciate the grey whales that remain in the area for four months, from December to March.
