Will I have any problem in exchanging or paying with US dollars?
No, you can buy and sell foreign currencies (especially US and Canadian dollars and euros) with no problem at the banks and money exchange offices in Cancun. The exchange rate is free and it varies a few points from one day to another.
It is not recommendable to buy or sell dollars in the black market. Although the price is better than that at the established money exchangers, you are exposed to being cheated with counterfeits. The money exchange offices usually work from 9:00 to 21:00 hours.
On the other hand, most of the commercial establishments at the Tourist Zone see no inconvenience in accepting dollars (US and Canadian) and euros, as a means of payment. However, it is always wise to carry some cash in local currency.

Will my credit cards be accepted?
Yes, the use of credit cards is well spread in Cancun. They are taken without a problem at commercial establishments, hotels, restaurants and travel agencies; so rest assure.
However, it is also advisable to carry some local currency for petty cash.

What should I do if I lose my credit card?
Call immediately to the company that issued the credit card in order to cancel it and obtain a new one. You can dial the following numbers:

Is it advisable to carry traveller checks?
Yes because they are a practical, safe and easy way of cashing in money, for they can be exchanged at banks with no inconvenience. Besides, they are accepted at hotels, travel agencies and also some commercial establishments in Cancun.
It is recommendable to have them issued by well-known and prestigious financial institutions and rather for large amounts.

How much should I tip?
It is not an obligation though it is usual to leave between 10 and 15 percent of the total bill, without taking into consideration the Tax to the Aggregated Value (IVA) at restaurants, bars, discotheques and nightclubs.
Regarding luggage haulers, bellboys and parking valets, it is usual to tip them with two dollars in Cancun.
