Will I have any problem exchanging my money or paying with dollars?
No, you will be able to exchange your foreign currency, especially US dollars, at bank offices and at the numerous exchange offices existing in the City of Chihuahua, along with some hotels that offer this service; it is also pretty simple to buy or sell euros and Canadian dollars.
The exchange rates are free and they may vary a few points from one day to another; it is recommendable to avoid buying or selling foreign currency in the black market, since even though you might get a better rate, you take the chance of getting counterfeits as well. On the other hand, you can pay with US dollars in most of the shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, travel agencies and other establishments in the City of Chihuahua. This is not the case in small businesses and in towns far from the large urban centres. It is advisable to ask before consuming and to always carry some pesos in your pocket.

Will my credit cards be accepted?
Yes, since the use of this means of payment is well spread in Chihuahua, especially at the big shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, travel agencies and businesses related to the tourist industry.

The most accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard and American Express; the establishments taking credit cards usually have a sticker pointing this fact out at plain view; in any case, if you are not sure ask before consuming, in this way you will avoid misunderstandings and unpleasant moments.
So there is no reason to be worry and use them with total reliance; however, always carry some local cash with you, mainly for small purchases or to pay some services (taxis for instance), or in case you move away from the urban zones.

Is it recommendable to bring traveller checks?
Yes, because they are a practical, safe and simple way of getting cash, in view that they can be easily changed at the bank offices of Chihuahua. It is recommendable to have the checks issued by institutions of international prestige, and preferable for large amounts of money.

How much should I tip?
Although it is not forcefully enforced, it is usual to leave between 10 and 15 percent of the bill at restaurants and bars, depending on the quality of the service.
Bellboys usually get a tip equivalent to one dollar for every day you stay at the hotel, while the parking valets usually get between one and two pesos.
