DURANGO
USEFUL INFORMATION
Health
Do I need any especial vaccine?
No, it is no requisite to present any vaccine certification in order to enter the State of Durango.
Is potable water reliable?
Some hotels and restaurants offer their clients purified water, because it is not safe to drink directly from the faucet in view that most of the pipes are pretty old.
Drink bottled, boiled or purified water if you are touring the city or camping on the outskirts; be aware also when drinking a soft cooling drink or an ice cream in the streets.
What precautions should I take regarding the food?
Durango's cuisine maintains the basic characteristics of Mexican food, meaning it is very spicy and over seasoned; therefore, it is advised to travellers not used to a loaded seasoning, to be frugal during the first few days of their stay.
In this way their organism will start getting used to the exciting gastronomic experience of Durango, while reducing at the same time the chance of suffering some stomach disturbance.
On the other hand, avoid eating in places that do not present the proper hygienic conditions or at vending stands. Regarding the fruits, choose those that can be peeled, and in the case of the salads, only ask for them at well-cleaned tourist restaurants.
If in spite of all these precautions you were to suffer a stomach malady, do not get too frightened for it is something rather common when travelling; it usually does not bring further serious consequences.
