Warm routes lead to oases which are not a
mirage:
Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo, places that can be
reached by air, land and sea. So there are no valid excuses, pack
your bags and start on a journey to a couple of paradises at the
edge of the Pacific Ocean:
- By air, regular and charter flights (the
latter during the high season, which goes from November to April)
land at the international airport of Zihuatanejo - Ixtapa,
located at 10 and 15 minutes, respectively, from both tourist
attractions. Transportation from the air station to the city
is realized on transport units properly authorised, which offer
private and shared services.
- By land, From Acapulco, a city located at
more than 320 kilometres from Mexico DF, take the N° 201 National
Highway. You can also take the road to Toluca, though unfortunately
the road is not in perfect conditions.
During the day, the so called "green angels" provide free mechanical assistance to any vehicle showing difficulties. The service is financed by the Official Tourism Bureau (Secretariado de Turismo) and their personnel speak both English and Spanish.
During the night, the situation turns more complicated for drivers, because gas stations are usually closed and the presence of the Federal Highway Police is scarce.
If you do not have your own or rented vehicle, you wont have
any problem getting to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo.
Public transportation units travel the route daily. The rate
of the ticket varies depending on the quality of the service.
- By sea, some cruisers cast anchor at the
bay of Zihuatanejo in order to allow passengers to tour the
town. Sailboats and yachts with crews anxious to escape from
the swell and hit the shore, ride at anchor as well.
