Will I have any problem exchanging my dollars or paying with them?
No, you will have no inconvenience whatsoever in exchanging your US dollars or euros in Nuevo Vallarta. However, take into consideration that the rates are free, hence they may change a few points from one day to another.
It is not recommendable to buy or sell dollars or euros in the black market, for although rates are higher than those at the formal establishments, you take the risk of getting counterfeits.
On the other hand, most of the commercial establishments accept payments in dollars (US and Canadian) and euros. Nevertheless, it is advisable to carry some cash with you of local currency.

Will they take my credit cards?
Yes, the use of credit cards is well spread in Nuevo Vallarta, and they are accepted with no major inconveniences at commercial establishments, restaurants and travel agencies, so worry not.
Yet, it is never an excess to ask before you consume. It is also advisable to have some local currency for minor expenses.

What do I do if I lose my credit card?
Call immediately to the seat of the firm that issued you the credit card in order to have it cancelled and to get a new one. You can dial the following phone numbers:

Is it recommendable to bring traveller checks?
Yes, because they are a practical, safe and easy way of getting cash. They can be cashed-in with no inconvenience at the bank offices. They are even taken by some hotels, travel agencies and other commercial establishments in Nuevo Vallarta. In all these cases they will be cashed-in for less than the nominal value.
It is recommendable to have the checks issued by known and prestigious financial institutions and preferable for large amounts.

How much should I tip?
It is not an obligation, although it is usual to leave between 10 and 15 percent of the total bill, without considering the Tax to the Aggregated Value (IVA), at restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Regarding luggage haulers, bellboys and parking valets, it is usual to tip them with a dollar or two in Nuevo Vallarta.
