It is not hard to get to the southern Oaxaca, and travellers will have the chance of reaching it rapidly, with no inconvenience at all and by several means of transportation from the centric City of Mexico, located at a 488-kilometre distance, and from the neighbouring States of Veracruz, Puebla, Chiapas and Guerrero, just to cite a few.

Travelling to Oaxaca is a nice experience since it has an efficient infrastructure and excellent ways of communication; in order to facilitate your tour we provide you with the following information:

• By air: the Xoxocotlán International Airport is the main entrance door to Oaxaca, and this air terminal gets flights coming from the City of Mexico (one hour), Acapulco (State of Guerrero), Guadalajara (State of Jalisco), Tuxtla Gutierrez (State of Chiapas), Villahermosa (State of Tabasco), Merida (State of Yucatan) and Cancun (State of Quintana Roo).
  Flights from and to the City of Mexico are daily and their itineraries are quite flexible; we can mention for instance that one airline alone operates 40 flights a week, thus allowing passengers coming from the United States, Europe, Central and South America to make quick connections at the capital's airport to get to Oaxaca.
  Once at the airport of Xoxocotlán travellers will find a series of services: tourist information stands, banks and financial offices, public telephones, medic service 24 hours a day, areas for the disabled and dully authorised terrestrial transportation units.

• By land: it does not matter which way you choose, the tolled highway or the Federal Highway, the trip from the City of Mexico to Oaxaca will always be gratifying due to the beautiful mountainous settings that its geographic surroundings have to offer.
  The fastest way to get to Oaxaca from the capital of the country is the tolled highway, also known as the Mexico-Puebla-Oaxaca Super Highway. The distance between both cities is of over 480 kilometres, which are covered in approximately 6 hours.
  The trip will take a little over 9 hours if you come through Federal Highway 1 (toll free).
  The transportation firms covering the Mexico-Oaxaca route offer first and second class services, with the buses setting off on a daily basis from both ends and on different timetables.
  If you have rented a car and want to drive all the way up to Oaxaca, take into account the following recommendations:
  
  *From the City of Mexico follow the Mexico-Puebla-Orizabal Highway and then take the detour towards the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca Super Highway.
  *From the State of Veracruz follow Federal Highway 145 (Tuxtepec-Palomares section) or Federal Highway 185 (Acuyacan-Palomares-La Ventosa section) until reaching Tehuantepec, there take Federal Highway 190 that will lead you up to Oaxaca.
  *From Tuxtla Gutierrez (State of Chiapas) take Federal Highway 190 or the Cuota 200 Highway that links Tapachula with Arriaga; then continue along the toll-free highway to Acuites, there take Federal Highway 190 that will take you up to Oaxaca.
  
  *From Acapulco (State of Guerrero) follow the Acapulco-Pinotepa section along Federal Highway 200; then take the detour of Federal Highway 125 (between Putla de Guerrero and Tlaxiaco), to finally continue along Federal Highway 190 up to Oaxaca.
