- The Teatro San Francisco - Theatre, its origins
go back to the nineteenth century. The edifice presents on its façade
three semi-circular arches ornamented with bronze sculptures, details
that confer a modern touch to the theatre, one of the seven best
in Latin America.
In 1993, the theatre was re-inaugurated, being fitted with all the state of the art advances available, as is a modern computerized illumination system. It has exceptional acoustics, allowing all the assistants (it has a capacity of 942 persons) to take note with absolute fidelity of the music and dialogues carried out by the interpreters of the musical compositions and other routines that are performed on its stage.
It is located in the Salmanca Street, Colonia ex Hacienda de Guadalupe.
- The Museo de la Mineria - Mining Museum. Behind
the quarry stone walls of a building from the 19th century are stored
a series of objects that synthesise the history of the economic
activity that forwarded the development of the towns of
Pachuca
and Real Monte.
The idea of this museum began to arise in the year of 1987, when a group of youngsters decided to rescue the history of mining in Hidalgo. Their efforts turned fruitful and their original project has now become a concrete reality that comprises an extended collection of documents and a gallery containing the mineral ores that are actually obtained in Mexico.
The museum, located in the Mina Street 10, Colonia Centro, is divided
into five sectors. The first three are dedicated to explaining the
technical processes of mining (tools, security gadgets, recreations
of the tunnels, layouts and old photographs). The two others show
the human side of this economical activity. In this two last halls
are shown, among other things, the original documents of the revolt
of 1776, the predecessor to the strikes that later arose all over
Mexico, and the first organised syndicate of the miners, created
in
Pachuca in the year of 1934.
The "industrial archaeology" finds a place in the main patio, and an old steam powered drilling machine from the nineteenth century is placed in the gardens that surround the Museum, altogether with a "Mack" truck used to transport the ingots of gold and silver to the railroad wagons and an eighty ton derrick, also steam powered, that rest among other similar objects.
- The Rehilete, Museo del Niño - Children's Museum,
a space to play and a place to learn through exiting interactive
experiences that allows youngsters to apprehend the knowledge concerning
the simplest principles of science, art and technology while they
play.
Created in 1997, the Museum contains halls devoted to movies, informatics, virtual reality, library, a video library and internet. Besides, in its garden are exhibited replicas of the most relevant archaeological findings, from the most important cultures of Central America. It is also possible to get acquainted with the botanical richness of the State of Hidalgo.
Another attraction is found in the hall called "Dale Marcha", meaning "Start It Up", in which it is possible to explore the internal functioning of an engine. There is also an Observatory, where the kids learn everything about the Solar System.
It is located at the kilometre 84.5 on the Mexico-
Pachuca
road.
- The Museo Regional de Historia - Regional Museum of History,
is a place to discover, step by step, the treasures that will allow
us to decipher and understand the history of Mexico. This journey
to the past starts with the staging of the Natural Regions of the
State and the exhibition of the rests of several prehistoric animals,
among them a mammoth.
Then the visit continues by the Roberto J. Weitlaner hall, where he or she will find maps and diverse objects from the times of the conquest of the Country by the Spaniards (1520 - 1523), as well as some spurs, bridles, chiselled iron armours, among others.
Another hall that arouses interest is the Lizardi Ramos Hall, exhibiting beautiful wood carvings, forged iron utensils, religious objects in silver and oil paintings. All objects exalting the art works from the New Spain.
There are also devices and documents related to the Independence Wars and the Mexican Revolution. It could not be neglected a space devoted to mining, neither one to the pulque, main ingredient for preparing a traditional drink. The museum is located on 200 Arista street, Colonia Centro.
- The Museo de la Mineralogia - Museum of Mineralogy,
its delightful glass shelves from the
porfirian epoch -the
govern of president Porfirio Diaz from 1884 to 1910- exhibit more
than 1200 samples of mineral ores from all over the world. There
are also shown fossils found in the State of Hidalgo. It is located
on 600 Abasolo Street, Colonia Centro, in the grounds of the Universidad
Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo - The Hidalgo State Autonomous University.
- El Planetario - The Planetarium, a great number
of the mysteries from the awe inspiring universe become unravelled
in the course of a simulated journey across the marvels of the macro
and micro-cosmos. A huge experience in which the audience -80 spectators
is the maximum capacity of the room- become interstellar travellers,
guided through this journey by a modern multi-media skipper.
In 1992 a round shaped building with 11 metres in diameter was constructed, topped by a dome upon which can be spotted up to 5900 fixed stars.
The Planetarium, located beside the Rehilete Museum -on the kilometre
84.5 of the Mexico-
Pachuca road- is also equipped
with an archaeological park and an area that displays the ultimate
advances in robotics.
- The Casa de Artesanias Hidarte - Crafts Store,
some of the best works delivered by the craftsmanship and originality
of the men and women from the State of Hidalgo can be found in this
space, devoted to honour popular arts.
The artisans of this State present unique and valuable objects, like the famed bells forged in the village of Tlahuelompa. The cane and wood devices produced in the zone of Ixmiquilpan. The basketworks, flower vases and flower pots that arrive from Apan. The textiles from San Nicolas, white sheets over which the otomies women apply colourful embroideries and many other objects.
