PUERTO VALLARTA
TRANSPORT
The routes of the local buses (camiones) in Puerto Vallarta are bound for the main tourist centres of the resort, and they are an efficient and economic alternative to tour every corner of this destination.
The vehicles start operating from 7:00 hours till 20:00 hours. Do not be surprised if some spontaneous "artist" decides to cheer up the trip with a variegated musical repertoire, which includes lyrics referred to a lost love and to the lack of money while you are travelling on one of these units. At the end of the "show", the interpreter will pass by the seats asking for a collaboration of the respectable audience, which is up to you to deliver or not.
In order to keep oriented while travelling on bus, bear in mind that the vehicles marked with the sign "Centro" are bound for the core of Vallarta and to Olas Altas; those identified as "El Túnel" take the detour to Olas Altas, and those going to the airport carry a sign reading "Ixtapa", "Las Juntas" or "Las Palmas".
There are also buses bound for the marina, Pitillal, Mismaloya, Nuevo Vallarta and Punta de Mita. The units going to the southern zone (Mismaloya or Boca de Tomatlàn) have their bus stop on Constitución and Basilio de Badillo Streets.
On the other hand, there is a good number of taxis in Puerto Vallarta, whose tariffs are imposed by the government. Find out about the amount of these fees at your hotel's reception desk, or ask the taxi driver for the cost of the service before you get into the vehicle.
