Will I have any problem exchanging my money or paying with a foreign currency?
No, you can buy and sell foreign currencies at banks and money exchange offices in Puerto Vallarta, especially dollars (US and Canadian) and euros. The exchange rate is free and it is possible that it may vary some points from one day to another.
It is not recommendable to buy or sell foreign money in the black market, for despite the fact that the rates are better, there is always the risk of getting counterfeits or notes in bad conditions. Always prefer the banks and the money exchange offices, the former only realise such transactions between 9:00 hours and 13:00 hours.
On the other hand, most commercial establishments and those offering tourist services accept dollar (US and Canadian) and euros to cancel payments, although the exchange rate is lower; however, it is always advisable to carry some local currency with you all the time.

Will they take my credit cards?
Yes, Puerto Vallarta is a tourist destination in which the use of credit cards is very well spread, and they are accepted with no inconveniences whatsoever at commercial establishments, restaurants and travel agencies.
In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, ask if your credit card will be accepted before taking the service. Likewise, it is recommendable to always carry some cash in local currency. On the other hand, if you are going to withdraw money from an ATM bear in mind that there is a limit of 3000 pesos per day.

What shall I do if I lose my credit card?
Call immediately the seat of the firm that issued you the credit card in order to have it cancelled and to have issued a new one. You can dial the following phone numbers:

Is it recommendable to carry traveller checks?
Yes because it is a practical, safe and easy way of getting cash, for they can be cashed in with no inconveniences at any bank office. Some hotels in Puerto Vallarta accept them as a means of payment although the exchange rate they offer is lower.
It is recommendable to have the checks issued by known and prestigious firms and for large amounts of money.

How much should I tip?
Tipping is not obligatory though it is a well spread courtesy. Tips at restaurants, bars and discotheques are usually between 10 and 15 percent of the bill, without considering the Tax on Aggregated Value (IVA).
It is customary to tip bellboys, luggage haulers and parking valets with one or two US dollars.
