The weather conditions in the State of Veracruz are very variegated, because its territory presents a series of environments and geographic regions, from coastal zones up to the highest summit in Mexico, the Orizaba Peak at 5700 metres, one of the colossuses of the Eastern Sierra Madre.

The climates in the State of Veracruz are the following:

• Warm Humid: it is dominant in 80 percent of the territory of Veracruz; it is present from the coastal plains of the Northern and Southern Gulfs up to a maximum height of 1000 metres. Here the annual average temperature is of 22º Celsius, with a minimum of 18º Celsius; pluvial precipitations can be unleashed at anytime of the year.
  
  
• Semi Warm Humid: it is proper of the Cities of Tlapacoyan, Xalapa and Orizaba, located at heights of between 1000 and 1600 metres; in these zones the average temperature fluctuates between 18º and 22º Celsius; rain showers are constant throughout the year.

• Temperate: it is in the westernmost part of the state, in the towns located at between 1600 and 2800 metres above sea level; there are different ranges of moisture and rain intensity depending on the distant to the sierra. The annual average temperature varies between 12º and 18º Celsius, with summer precipitations that are occasionally abundant.
  
  
• Semi Cold: it is present in the Chest of Perote and the Orizaba Peak, between 2800 and 3800 metres above sea level; its average temperature fluctuates between 5º and 12º Celsius; rain showers are in summer.
  
  
• Cold: starting over 3800 meters above sea level, its annual average temperature is of between 2º and 5º Celsius; its grounds are permanently frozen, which impedes the growing of vegetation.
  
  
• Semi Dry: in the City of Perote and west of the Huasteca, this zone is protected by the Neo Volcanic Axis and the Eastern Sierra Madre, elevations that hinder the arrival of humid winds; the annual average temperature is of 14º Celsius and the rains fall in summer.

When we talk about the weather in Veracruz, we must mention two meteorological phenomena that have an influence in this zone:

• The hurricanes: they show up between June and October and form after the rainy season; in some occasions they cause property damage in the cities of the state; however, the authorities constantly monitor and inform about these climatologic phenomena.
  
  
• The cold fronts: also known as "northern", they are masses of cold air coming from the Polar Regions, which form clouds that generate precipitations when they get in contact with the warm wind of the Gulf of Mexico.
