VERACRUZ
HEALTH
Do I need to get any especial vaccine?
No, the sanitarian authorities of the State of Veracruz do not ask travellers for any especial vaccine certificate.
Is potable water reliable?
Although the city provides potable water, it is not recommendable to drink it directly from the tap. The best thing to do is drink bottled or purified water; it is also advisable to be careful with the soft drinks for sale on the streets.
What precautions should I take at mealtime?
Gastronomy in Veracruz is truly tasty, though its seasoning and condiment may cause some inconveniencies in unaccustomed travellers; therefore, it is advisable to be frugal and moderate in your first encounters with Veracruz' excellent cuisine.
Avoid eating in places lacking adequate hygienic conditions or at street stands as well. Regarding the fruits, prefer those that can be peeled, and in the case of the salads, ask for them at well cleaned tourist restaurants alone.
If in spite of all these precautions you were to suffer a stomach ache, do not get too scared for this is a very common discomfort amongst travellers; they usually carry no further consequences.
