What clothes should I bring?
You must pack comfortable and casual clothes for your coming and going across Veracruz, they will allow you to excursion in its natural areas (maritime and mountainous) and also in its urban and historic zones. On the other hand, if you come between December and March, just pack light sweaters, for the nights are not that cold but rather light.

Where can I ask for tourist information?
You can solicit information at the offices of the Direction of Metropolitan Tourism and Public Relations, located on the crossing of Lerdo and Zamora Streets; you may also call the following numbers: (52-229) 989-8817 / 989-8853 / 989-8800 extension number 158

What are the people like?
The people in Veracruz are kind, honest and content, rather noisy according to some, and they welcome their visitors to the sound of the cheering jarocho. The carnival of February is the best time of the year to enjoy the expansive character of the inhabitants of Mexico's first port.

Which are the working hours at offices and shopping centres?
In Veracruz public offices work Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 hours up till 18:00 hours, with a break for lunch between 13:00 hours and 15:00 hours. • Safety
  • Will I have problems in trying to communicate with my country?
No, whatsoever; Veracruz has an adequate and efficient communication system that will allow you to connect with the world as easily as it can possibly be. Most of the hotels in the city offer their guests calling service (local, national and international) from their rooms.
Before dialling the number, bear in mind that the rates are higher than at the public phone booths, which work with coins and prepaid cards, or calling collect. The Internet is another possibility, and access is offered in several hotels (for free in some cases), otherwise there is a web of cyber cafes in the city; the service is reasonably economic and reliable.

What do I need to produce in order to rent a car?
In order to rent a car you need to produce an international driver license, or your own provided it is valid in your country of origin, and a credit card accepted in Veracruz. Besides, the applicant must be over 21 years of age; these are the only requisites. There is more than one firm dedicated to this business in Veracruz; their tariffs vary, being the national firms more economic than the international ones; tariffs also vary according to the type of vehicle you wish to rent. Either way, it is advisable to take an insurance policy in addition, to cover you against car accidents.

    Where can I purchase handicrafts?
If you wish to take a reminder of your tour across Veracruz, visit the shops in the city centre; there you will find beautiful handiworks coming from all over the state.
In the nights of fiesta and dancing, you will find reminders and souvenirs in the plaza of the city.

What voltage is the electric power?
As is the case in the entire Mexico, the electric output is of 110 volts and 60 cycles. The inlets are flat, American type. If you happen to have electric appliances working with other voltages, you will need an adaptor.
