Will I have any problem exchanging my money or paying with dollars?
No, most of the commercial establishments, especially those that are part of the tourist industry, accept US dollars with no problem; however, this is not the case in small shops and in rural areas.
On the other hand, you will be able to exchange your dollars or euros at bank offices, exchange offices and even at hotels. You will have no problem in doing so, but you must take into consideration that the rate is free and it may vary a few points from one day to another.
It is not recommendable to buy or sell dollars or euros in the black market; although the rates are better than at the exchange offices, you take the risk of getting counterfeits.
Whenever you get dollars or Mexican pesos, check that they are not crumpled, broken or marked with ink, for you may have problems in exchanging them again.

Will my credit cards be taken?
Yes, the use of credit cards is well spread in Villahermosa; however, ask if your credit card will be accepted before consuming or paying for a service, or look for a sticker indicating the acceptance of your credit card on the door or on any other visible place. Bear in mind that the use of credit cards is restricted in small establishments and in the rural areas of the state. Besides, always carry some cash with you, especially for small purchases or to pay for some services, such as taxis for instance.

Is it recommendable to bring traveller checks?
Yes, they are a practical, safe and easy way of getting cash, and they can be cashed-in with no inconvenience at the bank offices of the city.
It is recommendable to have the checks issued by known and prestigious financial institutions, and rather for large amounts of money.

How much should I tip?
Although it is not an obligation, it is usual to tip between 10 and 15 percent of the total bill at bars and restaurants in Villahermosa, depending on the kind of attention you have gotten.
Likewise, bellboys usually get a dollar for each day you stay at the hotel, while parking valets get between one and two pesos.
