Will I have any problem exchanging my money or paying with dollars?
No, in no way; US dollars are as well accepted as Mexican pesos in Zacatecas, and you will be able to use them to shell out your bills at most of the hotels, travel agencies, restaurants and shopping malls without any problem.
In regard to exchanging foreign currency, you can do so at the bank and exchange offices existing in the city; the rate of the US dollar is free and may vary a few points from one day to another. It is also possible to exchange euros.
It is not recommendable to buy and sell dollars or euros in the black market; although the rates are better than at the exchange offices, you take the risk of getting counterfeits.
It is more complicated to exchange money or to pay with foreign currencies in rural areas; therefore, it is always advisable to carry Mexican pesos with you.

Will my credit cards be taken?
Yes, their use is widespread in the main commercial and tourist establishments in Zacatecas; the most accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.
You will see small stickers with the symbols of the credit cards taken at the entrance of these establishments; if there were none, ask before consuming or requesting any service.
In any case, always carry some cash with you, especially for small purchases or to pay for some services (taxis for instance), or to go beyond the urban area.

Is it recommendable to bring traveller checks?
Yes, in some cases traveller checks are safer than cash; they can be easily cashed-in in any bank office, mostly if they have been issued by a well-known and prestigious firm. Besides, they are easily replaceable in case of loss or theft.

How much should I tip?
It is not mandatory to tip; however, it is usual to leave the equivalent of 15 percent of the bill at bars and restaurants in Zacatecas. Bellboys, luggage porters, parking valets and gas dispatchers can be tipped with a dollar.
